PHOENIX, Ariz. – Sept. 25, 2020 – Sprouts Farmers Market has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) GreenChill Program for using environmentally friendlier commercial refrigeration systems that reduce refrigerant emissions and decrease environmental impacts. This achievement follows Sprouts’ long-held belief that food should make you feel good, from the way it impacts the planet to how it effects the health of shoppers. This year, seven Sprouts stores earned Re-Certification Excellence recognizing each location for renewing GreenChill store certification for five consecutive years.

“Sprouts proudly supports the EPA’s GreenChill Program which has helped us better understand our stores’ material impact and take action to operate in a way that is better for our planet,” said Carlos Rojas, Sprouts’ Vice President of Sustainability. “We’re proud and humbled to be recognized once again for our efforts and look forward to adding to our already 90 stores that received GreenChill certification this award cycle as we continue to expand.”

“Sprouts Farmers Market continues to be a champion of environmental leadership through their sustained commitment to reducing refrigerant emissions,” said Kirsten Cappel, GreenChill Program Manager. “We commend Sprouts’ commitment to GreenChill and look forward to continuing to certify more and more Sprouts stores.”

Sprouts has participated in the GreenChill Program since 2009. This year’s achievements add to the 25 recognitions the healthy grocer has achieved across the GreenChill Partnership in previous years.

Locations recognized for Re-Certification Excellence this year are located in Oakland, Calif.; San Rafael, Calif.; Wheat Ridge, Colo.; Marietta, Ga.,; Roswell, Ga.; Germantown, Tenn. and Hurst, Texas.
